Hi Suanne and all,
I've just rejoined SLAS after some years focusing on a different industry. I was very active in the predecessor organizations to SLAS... I joined both organizations in the early 1990s. I was one of the initial members of ALA (I was the first ever person the register for the LabAutomation conference by their website and received an award for this from Tony B.... for those of you who were also involved back then). I also served many different roles with the SBS (including conference committee, board member for two terms and President).
I led the committee that established the first four microplate standards... it was an amazing years-long experience working closely with users and vendors to develop the standards. It was during that time that I changed jobs from a drug discovery researcher at Merck & Co to joining Tecan, a manufacturer of research tools.
As president of SBS, I initiated the conversations and kicked off the process with ALA regarding the merger of the two organizations. This all started over a drink with Jim Sterling, who was President of the ALA at the time. I am so happy to see that everything the organizations envisioned at the time has come true... this is truly a larger, stronger single organization.
After that, I decided it was time to explore different spaces. So five years ago I relocated to Israel for Merck KgaA (MilliporeSigma/EMD in North America) to focus on investing in early stage technologies across a range of areas, but with a heavy focus on the materials and semi-conductor industries. I was interested in being more deeply involved in entrepreneurship and early stage start-ups. It was an amazing experience and I got to work with many different start-ups in many different industries. I current act as an advisor to two... one in building materials and one in medical adherence technologies; two very different areas.
Last week, I joined Thermo Fisher to focus on building up an external innovation program to similarly invest in earlier stage technologies and companies... and so I am now back focused on the Life Sciences again.
I also have a dog.... Maizey is a 6 year old Collie/Australian Shepard mix (or so we were told) who has lost two fights with cats...(I learned that cats can give a dog a bloody nose).
I see many old friends who have posted on this message string... so hello, I look forward to catching up with you all again and making new connections. Feel free to reach out.

Hello! A little about me: I have been with SLAS for over 6 years and transitioned from Admin to Membership because I enjoy working with you all so much. If you've been to the SLAS International Conference, you've probably seen me at the SLAS Booth, or cheering you on during the FUNd Run. I'll be there again this year!
Fun Fact: My dog's name is Blanche and she is 16 years old. She is the sweetest golden girl!
Looking forward to hearing from you and learning more about you.
