Dear SLAS Community,
I am reaching out with a small but meaningful outreach initiative for students at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland.
I am currently in contact with programme coordinators at the university, and we are exploring an additional offering for students in Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacy, Diagnostics, and related fields.
The idea is simple: invite experts from companies, research institutes, start-ups, CROs, biotech, pharma, diagnostics, laboratory automation, analytical science, and related organisations to give short online talks about what professional life outside the university actually looks like.
Many students are curious about industry and applied research, but they often do not have a clear picture of:
What does daily work in a company or research institute look like?
What skills are expected from new graduates?
What are the biggest challenges in your role?
How different is industrial or applied R&D from academic research?
What should students learn now to be better prepared for their first job?
What career paths exist in life sciences, chemistry, diagnostics, and laboratory technology?
If you have your own story and idea that you would like to share, this is the good opportunity to do so.
For students, this would be a valuable window into possible career paths.
For presenters, it is also a great outreach opportunity: a chance to connect with motivated students, present your organisation, build visibility, and potentially reach future interns, thesis students, or employees.
The lectures would take place online, and dates would be arranged individually based on the availability of each speaker.
If you work in a company, research institute, start-up, scale-up, university spin-off, diagnostics lab, pharma, biotech, analytical lab, lab automation company, or any related field - and you would be open to sharing your experience with students - I would be very happy to hear from you.
Please comment below or send me a direct message, and I will gladly share more details.
Thank you in advance for helping students better understand the opportunities waiting for them beyond the lecture hall.
